BEHAVIOUR
Behaviour at Oak Tree School
At Oak Tree School, we believe behaviour is communication. Many of our pupils communicate needs, worries, or overwhelm through their behaviour, so our role is to understand what sits behind it.
We focus on relationships, safety, and regulation first. Positive behaviour is supported through clear routines, consistent expectations, visual supports, adapted learning, and strong staff-pupil relationships.
Rather than punishment, we teach the skills pupils need to succeed, including communication, emotional regulation, independence, and social understanding.
When a pupil becomes distressed, staff use calm, supportive de-escalation strategies using the CPI module to help them regulate safely. Restrictive physical intervention is only used as a last resort, where there is an immediate risk of harm.
We work closely with parents and carers to ensure a consistent, supportive approach between home and school.
Our aim is simple: for every child to feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.
