READING
Reading is an important part of our education provision at Oak Tree School. We know how much being able to read and understand texts can improve the life chances of our students.
Key Benefits of Reading for Students
· Academic Improvement: Reading improves vocabulary, grammar, and overall literacy, which translates to better performance across all subjects.
· Cognitive Development: It sharpens the brain, enhancing memory, focus, and analytical skills.
· Emotional and Social Growth: Reading fiction increases empathy, allowing students to understand diverse perspectives and navigate social situations.
· Mental Health and Stress Reduction: Engaging in a book acts as a stress-reliever, providing relaxation and improving focus, which can enhance sleep.
· Knowledge Expansion: Books expose students to new concepts, cultures, and information, broadening their understanding of the world.
· Enhanced Creativity: Reading stimulates imagination, fostering new ideas and creative thinking
We utilise different reading programs that are matched to the needs of the child, to encourage progress in reading. All children have a reading (or needs appropriate) intervention in their timetable several times a week.
