HOMEWORK

We would love it if you would read with your child 3-4 times a week.

Primary students on the Read, Write, Inc phonics programme should have a new book bag book each week.

Children who have finished phonics should be using MyOn online library to read books of their choice.

We also have a Timestables Rockstars login for pupils in year 6 upwards, who would benefit from this.

You can use the login details sent home, and login using the links opposite to access this work.

At Key Stage 4, home learning will be set relating to core and optional subjects as and when individual subject teachers deem necessary. It does not form part of their course to have home learning requirements.

We would like your child to be reading 4 times a week in year 10 and 11 to ensure they are developing vocabulary and comprehension skills. This will support their access to the wider world beyond Oak Tree.

Then there need to be a new section added under 'curriculum' called 'Enrichment' too, with this wording:

Enrichment:

Oak Tree School offers a wide variety of enrichment beyond our core classroom offer. Although our classrooms offer stability, support and nurture, our believe that experiences beyond the classroom are incredibly meaningful for our students.

Our enrichment offer combines with elements of the Personal Development curriculum; through weekly community visits students experience a wealth of people, places and situations, that enable them to utilise and generalise skills they have been working on in the classroom.

Further up the school, Key Stage 3 classes take part in an Enrichment day every Friday. This day encompasses Art, Humanities and Performing arts, as well as visits to the local community. Through the enrichment curriculum, students step away from traditional classroom learning, and instead focus on a topic for the half term which is enriched with opportunities to go off site.

We also offer a residential opportunity in year 9, to support students social and emotional development before they embark on their Key Stage 4 studies.

At Key Stage 4, the curriculum offer ensures students have time for enrichment activities. All students undertake Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, developing skills in community service, interests of their own, and an overnight residential opportunity.

Student voice:

We have well established Primary and Secondary School councils that meet every half term. These students are voted for by their peers and are supported by the use of AAC devices in necessary to enable them to share their views with others. In the school council meetings they help to shape our school by doing things like naming taxis, arranging fund raising events and community link opportunities, as well as making suggestions about how to make our school a better place.

Leadership opportunities:

Alongside the school council, student in year 10 all students take the Sports Leaders Level 1 course to develop their leadership skills through sport specifically.
