We’re Celebrating National Recognition for Staff Development

We’re delighted to announce that Maiden Erlegh Trust has been shortlisted for the MAT Excellence Awards Staff development award (1-12 schools)

The award recognises trusts that demonstrate a strong, evidence-informed approach to professional development. Our submission focussed on our whole workforce approach and the dedicated pathways we’ve developed for all roles – teaching, support, administrative and operational colleagues, through Maiden Erlegh Institute.

Professional development pathways span teaching, support, administrative and operational roles, ensuring structured and meaningful development for every colleague.

The evidence we submitted included:

• 16,000 National College courses completed in the 15 months after joining
• 27 internal CPD courses scheduled for 2025–2026
• 80 support and administrative colleagues enrolled on dedicated professional pathways (Sept–Dec 2025)
• 177 teaching colleagues enrolled in internal CPD (Sept–Dec 2025)
• 25 colleagues undertaking apprenticeship-funded qualifications (as of December 2025)
• Seven internally promoted Lead Practitioners deployed across schools
• Annual CPD-linked objectives set by every colleague through our HR system

Taken together, this reflects the depth of engagement across our organisation and the way professional learning is being shaped and led by colleagues as a culture of home-grown expertise. Crucially, this work is contributing to stronger provision and improved outcomes for the children and young people we serve.

Jonathon Peck, CEO, said:

“Being shortlisted is a testament to the commitment colleagues show to their own development and to one another. I want to personally thank everyone who contributes to making professional development such a strong and visible part of our organisation.”

Rob Buck, School Improvement Director: People Development, added:

“This is a fantastic moment for colleagues across Maiden Erlegh Trust. Everyone contributes - from designing programmes and leading sessions to engaging fully in their own professional development. Seeing that collective effort recognised nationally is something to be celebrated.”

We extend our thanks to the organisers, sponsors and judging panel, and wish all shortlisted trusts well at the awards ceremony in June.
